Clinical Tips
Preparation Guidelines:
- To optimize the longevity and aesthetics of your restoration, adhere to the following preparation thicknesses:
Anterior Crowns:
- Aim for an incisal reduction between 1.5–2.0 mm.
- Labial and lingual reductions should fall within 1.0–1.5 mm.
- Smoothly round all internal line angles.
- Opt for a chamfer or shoulder margin. Avoid feather edges to ensure adequate porcelain layering.
Posterior Crowns:
- For PFZ, a 1.5–2.0 mm occlusal/incisal reduction is recommended.
- Axial reductions should be between 1.0–2.0 mm.
- Smoothly round all internal line angles.
- Again, a chamfer or shoulder margin is preferable. Feather edges might compromise the porcelain thickness.
Bonding:
- For retentive preparations: Consider traditional cements such as glass ionomer or resin-modified glass ionomer.
- For less retentive preparations: Adhesive resin cements are advised.
Adjustments:
- For making adjustments, utilize a fine-grit diamond bur and apply gentle pressure. For posterior teeth, a rugby-shaped bur is optimal, whereas tapered burs are more suitable for anterior teeth adjustments.
