Lava™

The Pinnacle of Dental Restoration

Lava™ Crown & Bridgework, a product of 3M, represents a pinnacle in dental restoration technology. Merging the robustness of zirconia with the aesthetic appeal of porcelain, Lava™ offers dentists a solution that is both durable and visually appealing. Each restoration is precisely milled from a Lava zirconia block. Once milled, the framework is colored using a selection from the VITA® shade range. This is followed by a 10-hour sintering process, enhancing the zirconia's strength and fracture resistance. The final touch involves layering the framework with feldspathic Lava Ceram porcelain, ensuring a restoration with an accurate fit, true-to-life translucency, and long-term durability.

Clinical Tips

Posterior Preparation Guidelines

  • For optimal results aim for an incisal reduction between 1.5–2.0 mm
  • Labial and lingual reductions should be within the range of 1.0–1.5 mm.
  • All internal line angles should be rounded for best results.
  • A chamfer or modified shoulder margin is recommended. Avoid feather edges to ensure adequate space for porcelain.

Adjustments

  • Use a fine-grit diamond bur for adjustments, ensuring light pressure to prevent microfractures.
  • For occlusal surfaces of posterior teeth, a football-shaped bur is ideal.
  • Tapered burs are recommended for anterior teeth adjustments.
  • When polishing, start with a coarse tool and progress to finer tools for a high-gloss finish.
